Welcome to My Vlog – Meet Dona

A Blend of Two Worlds: Tech and Hospitality

If you look at my background on paper, it might look a little unusual. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Guangdong Pharmaceutical University in China, but I currently spend my days working at Siyoni Market in Bujumbura, Burundi.

People often ask me: "Why did you study coding and web design only to end up working at the market selling kitchen wares?"

The truth is, I don't see it as a change in direction. I see it as building a complete toolkit.

Studying in China taught me how to think logically, how to build systems, and how to solve problems through technology (and yes, how to design a pretty decent website like this one!). But working at the market taught me something just as important: the human touch. It taught me how to serve people, how to communicate across three different languages, and how a well-run operation can create unforgettable experiences for clients.

From the Classroom to the Market

My journey hasn't been linear. After finishing my diploma in teaching here in Burundi, I went on to dive deep into Java, C Programming, and Web Development. But life had other plans, and I found myself back home, putting on an apron instead of typing code.

And you know what? I've loved it. The pressure of selling service, the joy of a satisfied customer, and the camaraderie of a selling team – it's a rush. But that computer science part of my brain never turned off. I kept thinking: How can I make this better? How can technology help this local market run smoother? How can we use the web to show the world the beauty of Burundian tourism?

Why This Vlog?

That question is exactly why I created this space.

I have a big dream: To combine my technical background with my hands-on selling experience to build a sustainable, technology-driven hospitality venture right here in Burundi.

This vlog is going to be the chronicle of that journey. I'll be sharing:

  • My daily life balancing tech and tourism.
  • Lessons learned from the hospitality industry in East Africa.
  • Tutorials and thoughts on web development (because I can't help myself!).
  • And hopefully, a front-row seat to me figuring out how to start a business that creates jobs and promotes local travel.

A Little More About Me

  • Languages: I'm a chatterbox. I speak Kirundi (native), French, English, and Swahili fluently.
  • Skills: I can code a website, manage a database, and cook you a delicious meal.

I'm a fast learner, a bit of a dreamer, and I'm convinced that the future of tourism in Burundi is bright.

Feel free to look around, leave a comment, or just say hi. I'm excited to see where this road takes us.

Karibu sana! (You are very welcome!)
